Temptation
Jesus disciples were going to be tempted and tested at this time when Jesus was going to be put to death. Jesus had come to die as a sacrifice for sin. He knew this right through His life and He knew the time had come. Now was the night before. He prays and He tells His disciples to pray. He needs their support and encouragement. He is going to suffer for us, despite His own perfect life. He asks His Father if there's any other way, but that He was prepared to go through with it if it was His Fathers will. The sign of His distress is His sweat like blood.
Even though Jesus was in such anguish, His disciples fell asleep.
Betrayal
For money, Judas was willing to hand Jesus over to be killed. He brought a mob of soldiers, priests and rulers with weapons. They came as if Jesus was leading a rebellion even though Jesus was having a peaceful time with His disciples and wasn't about to cause any trouble. Judas was shown to be a false disciple. Peter struck out but Jesus stopped Him. He wanted to go in peace. At this point the disciples run away and Jesus is lead off by the mob.
Denial
Peter follows at distance. He's sitting nearby while the trial is taking place. Three times people pick him out as a disciple, but he denies it strongly each time. People recognize him as a follower of Jesus and even though Jesus warned him about this moment when satan would tempt him, he still wasn't prepared and fails the test. Jesus looks directly at him with forgiveness and Peter leaves and weep with remorse. There is encouragement here because later on Peter would be restored and would go on to stand firmly for Jesus and paid the price.
Sadly, with Judas, there was no sense of sorrow or forgiveness, and he ended his own life.
Are you just pretending to have an interest in Christ or are you standing firm in Jesus.
John lodge spoke. He spoke about the last supper, luke 22 v 39-62.
ReplyDeleteJesus went with his diciples to the mount of olives. Key word, temptation. Jesus was to face a test. Jesus new from the start he was on this earth that he was going to die. He told his diciples to pray.
He new that he had to do the fathers will. Jesus prayed in distress and was ''sweating like blood'' (John lodge). Jesus with suffer for us, he is a perfectly holy person he bore our sin for us to save us.
If your ever upset pray to God. Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss, Judas was a greedy person and was payed to betray Jesus. Judas was a fake diciple, Peter got a sword and chopped a soilders ear but Jesus says no and heals him. Peter denied Jesus 3 times just as he said so.
Peter was from Galilee and so was Jesus so peaple thought he was a follower of Jesus. Will you be a real follower of Jesus or a fake

John lodge tonight spoke about: at the start we reflected on last week, but now we look at luke 22 jesus prays on the mount of olives jesus told his deciples to pray that you will not fall in to temptation (keyword). Jesus done this to test his honest trustworthy deciples, i also think he done this because he knew that he was going to die. An angel appeared from heaven to strengthened him. And being in anguish he started praying more earnestly and his sweat was like drops of BLOOD. When he got up his deciples were ASLEEP, he told them to get up and pray. Now to move on judus the twelve came along and placed a kiss on Jesus and jesus asked why are you betraying me with a kiss? The gaurds came to arrest jesus, Judas done all of this for money. Jesus said to the mob i was with you in the temple everyday but you did not lay a hand on me, but now this is your hour of darkness keyword: betrayal. Now to move on keyword: deny jesus is lead away and the deciples run apart from peter, peter sat with jesus in the courtyard and a woman servant looks at peter and says he was with him but peter denys it. He remmerbered what the lord said about dissowning him and peter left crying bitterly.
ReplyDeleteThanks John
